Sailing in St Martin, St Barth’s and Anguilla
Getting There and Away
Sailing holidays in St Martin, St Barth’s and Anguilla begin in St Martin and SXM international airport is well served with direct flights from the US, Canada and Europe. Inter-island flights are short and frequent from elsewhere in the Caribbean. Those travelling from further afield will be best to connect through Miami, Amsterdam or Paris.
Day sailing with short (3 to 4 hours), inter-island hops in sheltered water, ideal for any level of sailing experience including complete beginners. There is one longer day sail across to St Barth’s and we’ve seen dolphins and caught tuna on this leg!
The islands in this area are fairly flat and there are no mountains or rainforest to speak of. They make up for this with the whitest of powdery white sand beaches and the bluest water for swimming! Snorkelling is amazing at all the island stops and turtles abound.
Vibe / Ambience
The island of St Martin/Sint Maarten is half French, and St Barth’s is French too, so expect that French creole twist coupled with great wine, cheese and patisserie! The Dutch side of Sint Maarten is known as “the fun side” with loads of restaurants, pubs, clubs and nightlife. Anguilla was previously British and is the epitome of quiet, laid back, sand between your toes sophistication.
Things to Do & See
Fabulous snorkelling, beach-combing and relaxing are the order of the day! Plus some great shopping in both St Barth’s and St Maarten.
