St Barth’s Bucket 2012 – Oklahoma Boys

Oklahoma Boys & the St Barth’s Bucket 2012
Greg and Ed chartered Ibis for 2 weeks and were joined by Bill in Week 1 for the Bucket, and Aaron in Week 2. The Bucket Regatta was on in St Barths…

First Stop Anguilla

[dropcap]G[/dropcap]reg, a friend from Oklahoma, and his Mate Ed chartered Ibis for a private fortnight sailing around St Maarten and were joined in the first week by Bill, and the second by Aaron.

We were in luck the first week as it was the St Barth’s Bucket Regatta, and after a quick trip over to Anguilla and a night out at Elvis’s Beach Bar, we headed over to catch the amazing action of the sailing superyachts in the Regatta. We spent a night anchored in the lovely Anse de Columbier before heading round to the main harbour to rub shoulders with the rich and famous of the sailing world. [pullquote_right]”Bill managed to get on board one of the boats for a look around”[/pullquote_right]Some of the smaller boats can tie up to the main quay in St Barth’s and it’s a rare opportunity to be able to see these huge playthings up close. It’s also nice for us mere mortals to feel part of the party as the main awards stage is open to the public and there are nightly bands playing…Bill demonstrated his Gift of the Gab and managed to get on board one of the boats for a look around.

Partying in St Barth’s

By midnight, it’s all starting to get a bit messy and we had a chance encounter with one of the rudest, most drunken tea waitresses you could ever think to meet begging a lift out to her boat somewhere in the bay. Not wanting to see her stranded ashore for the night but subject to an onslaught of rudeness, I finally managed to offload her to her Captain after threatening to push her out of the dinghy…it really wasn’t hard to see why she was left alone on the dock!

And the Official Video:

Ziplining in St Martin

We swapped Bill for Aaron in Simpson Bay and headed back to Marigot where the boys went ziplining; the lovely Loterie Farm Bar and restaurant was my rest stop for the afternoon, armed with a camera taking pics of miscellaneous specs of colour whizzing across the leafy backdrop. As they arrived back down, Ed was whisked into the first aid hut and told to take down his pants…turned out his arse had a none too delicate encounter with the forest floor at the end of a run, tearing a hole in his shorts….. and bumcheek.

Some sailing to Anguilla, Grand Case and Simpson Bay rounded off the fortnight.
